For patients who have decided to get dentures, it can instigate a lot of questions. These include how they work and what to do to make the experience the best kind of fit. One of the top questions we hear in our dental office is about how to ensure that dentures fit correctly.
We are going to cover some of the tips denture patients can take to ensure optimal fit and feel, and to ensure their experience does not include any discomfort that can be avoided if handled correctly.
How do dentures work?
The most common question, and for a good reason, is: How do dentures work?
Nowadays, it is a standard procedure. Getting full-dentures and partial dentures is no longer an uncommon event and hassle.
The two types: Full and partial dentures
Many may not know there are two types of dentures. The first type of denture is partial dentures, and the second is full dentures. Luckily, dentistry has come to the point that partial dentures are much more commonplace.
When dentures were thought of typically, full dentures come to mind. That is the process of replacing all the teeth in a person’s mouth with dentures. This is in the place of their natural teeth that are no longer deemed to be salvageable.
Partial dentures are another type that takes two healthy teeth on either side of a line of teeth that are either missing or need to be removed. The partial denture is then fastened on to the healthy teeth. Dental crowns are used to fill in the gap that is toothless and give back to a person a row of teeth they may be missing.
How to make dentures fit better
First, it’s essential to know that, for people who have recently received new dentures, it is common that any discomfort or issues usually become better after a few weeks of work. However, there are a few different tips to help if some dentures feel like they are not fitting properly before visiting your dentist.
Dental adhesive
One of the things that denture wearers can do if they feel the dentures are a bit loose or not fitting properly is using dental adhesive. These can be found at a local drug store and may be helpful for a possible hindrance the patient might be facing.
Talk to your denture specialist, and they can give you suggestions on the best brands that are currently available.
Caring for your dentures each day
The most helpful thing that denture wearers can do is keep their dentures in good working order and clean.
Use the proper solution and cleaning techniques that your dental team has provided. Make sure your dentures get the proper cleaning. These are the best things a new or experienced denture wearer can do.
